Thero was an unusually high tide on Thurday night, and had it been attended by a heavy surf not a fow buildings on tho North Spit would have bean washed away. As it was, with only a moderate sea running, tho water found' its way right across into the river, flooding the habitation occupied by tho har-bor-master's crew, and tho signalman's house besides. Yesterday morning's tide was not nearly so heavy. The p.s. Bruco arrived from Okarita last night. She crossed the bar of that rivor at 1 p.m. yesterday, and reached tho roadstead after a" pleasant trip, at 6 p.m. As soon aa tho tide sorved sho ran iv, and although the night was pitoh dark, roached tho wharf •afely at 11 p.m.— The Bruoe brings up a number of passengers, but no gold.
