Saturday, Juno 16, 1866Our last Summary for Europe was published on the 12th ult., for despatch by tho steamer Gothenburg for Melbourne, which port tho Peninsular and Oriental Company's steamer loaves monthly, conveying mails by tho Suez route. Oil this occasion our Summary is prepared for despatch by the Panama route, the first steamer under tho new contract being appointed to leave Wellington on tho 24th inst. Tho post will close on Monday morning, tho steamship Airedale sailing for Wellington on that day. Under the contract arrangements, news* papers forwarded by the Panama route require to have a penny postago stamp affixed to them.
Tho English March mails arrived at tho Bluff on tho 17th ultimo, and tho principal items of intelligence were forwarded by our agent by electric telegraph, and published early the samo evening. The English telegrams received were to the 18th April. Arranged under their usual headings, we give the most important items of in« telligonce for tho month now closed. In our commercial columns will bo found a more complete epitome of mercantile and Customs' transactions than has yet appeared.
