Tho fine new schooner Stanley arrived yesterday from tho Manukau, which port she left on Monday, the 21st insfc. She is commanded by Capt. Davics, who on his last visit to this port was master of tho three-masted schooner Little Fred. He reports light head winds and smooth sea during tho passage. She brings a largo miscellaneous cargo of over 200 tons ; there was no iucident of moment to report since leaving tho Manukau. Tho Challenge tug steamer took hor in tow and made for the bar, and had it not been for tho Bkilfulnosß displayed by Capt. Wilson, of tho tug, a very serious mishap might have befallen this very lino vessel. In towing in sho grounded on tho bar as she was drawing 9 feet of water, aud stuck for a considerable time, but tho Challenge was kept woll over to tho South Spit, and succeeded in towing her off into tho river with safety, whero she now lies moored alongside the whai'f. The p.B. Bruce arrived in port this morning from Okarita, with passengers only. Captain Kerle^ reports tho entrance to that port aa very Harrow and intricate, with only sft. 6in. water on the bar. Going into that harbor this trip, there was not sufficient room to turn in tho bend of the entrance, and touching forward, went in stern first. Oil coming out, sho was dragging tho ground over tho'bar. The p.B. Bnllnvat left tho port yesterday morning, bound for Wellington and Auckland, whero it is intended to placo her in permanont employment. Sho had been laid up here for a considerable time, a3 she was debarred from obtaining a certificate by tho marine engincora appointed to inspect local steamers. The tug steamer Challenge yesterday morning took out tho passengers to tho South Australian, bound for Melbourne, previously towing in tho schooner Stanley, which vessel, from her heavy draught of water, stuck on the" bar for a considerable time, but by hard steaming and good seamanship on the part of Captain Wilson, he succeeded in bringing his tow with safety to tho wharf.
