COMMERCIAL.

West Coast Times Office,

Monday Evening. The duty upon imports collected at the Custom House to-day amounted to £69 19 a 6d. The following merchandise cleared shows its distribution : —

Duty'on gold, 2 ozs., 6s. In 'consequence of tho departure of the South Australian for Melbourne this day, wo repeat the substanco of our commercial report of Saturday last : — Pricas for staple articles havo been not only well maintained but improved upon, with tho exception, perhaps, of flour, which remains near our last quotations with a slight downward tendency— say, for Adolalde, Lll to L 23;2 3; Chilian, Ll6 to Ll7 per ton. Oats remain firm at 6s 6d to 6s 9d por bushel; other kinds of h«rse feed unaltered. Brandies in bulk.— First-class brands have realised a further advance of 9d to Is por gallon, and continue very scarce $ less favorito brands have to soms extent participated in tho improvement. Other spirits have scarcely moved from our last prices. "Wines have been freely placed, without alteration. Beer in glass is dull ; first-class bulk is saleable. Provisions continuo scarce. First-class hams, bacon, and butter, fetch excellent prices. Candles. — F. W. havo considerably advanced, and, judging from quotations in the Melbourne and Dunedin markots, good prices are likely to continuo hero.

We regret to announco that a rumor has prevailed during tho day, which thcro is reason to believe is authentic, that Mr O. L. Throckmorton, has filed his schedule in OhrigtPlroreh,
