mHE NEW CUSTOMS DUTIES ACT, 1666.
The Duties of Customs chargeable upon goods wares and merchandise imported into tho Colony of New Zealand shall cease and determine from and after the Eighth day of December 1861.
From and after tlio Eighth day of December One Thousand Eight Hundred and Sixty-four in lieu of such duties tlio following duties of Customs shall be charged on all goods wares and merchandise hereinafter specified imported into the Colony of Now Zealand r charged from any warehouse for homo consumption that is to Bay— s. d. Alo Beer Cider and Perry in wood — the gallon . . . .09 Ale Beer Cider and Perry in bottle — tho gallon . . . .16 Cigars and Snuff — tho Ib. . .46 Coffee Chicory Cocoa and Chocolate— the Ib. . . .03 Cutlery Hardware Platedwaro Holloware and Ironmongery of till sorts and Candles and Soap of all sorts— the cwt 4 0 Five Arms of every description — each . 5 0 Gunpowder— the lb. . .03 Manufactures of Silk Cotton Linen and Woollen and all Articles manufactured therefrom Drapery Haberdashery Hosiery Millinery Furs Hats Boots Shoes Confectionery Bottled Fruits Dried Fruits Mustard Olive Oil Pickles Preserves Sauces Spices of all kinds (measuring outside the packages) — tho cubic foot . .60 Spirits and Strong Wateis of every kind sweetened or otherwise of any strength not exceeding the strength of proof by Syke'B Hydrometer and so on in proportion for any greater strength than tho strength of proof —eh gallon . . ..120 Sugar raw and refined of all kinds and Treacle and Molasses— tho lb. .01 Tea— the lb. . , . 0 6 Tobacco— the lb. . . .36 Wine in wood containing less than twen-ty-five per cent, of alcohol of a speoifio gravity oJ| '825 at the temperature of 60 degrees Fahrenheit's thermometer — tho gallon . .40 Wine in bottle containing less than 25 per cent, of alooliol of a specific gravity of 826 at the temperature of 00 degrees of Fahrenheit's thermometer — tho gallon . . .50 Anchor and Chains and Rod Bolt Bar Sheet Hoop and Pig Iron and Nails Sail-clo'h Cordage Twine Cotton Yarn Bags Sacks and Wool packs Spirits of Tar and Turpentine Tobacco for Sheepwash Nuts of all kinds Powder fit only for blasting purposes and all unennmerated Goods Wares and Merchandise . Free A drawback of the whole of such duties shall bo allowed for wines intended for tbe consumption of the olh'cers of her Majesty's troops in tbe colony of New Zealand and of the officers of her Majesty's navy serving on board any of her Majesty's ships in the seas adjoining thereto or such wines may be landed on first importation or delivered out of bond free of duty subject in all cases to such regulations as the Governor shall from time to time prescribe. Provided always that if any such wines shall be subsequently sold in the said colony except for the use or consumption of any of her Majesty's military or naval officers as aforesaid the same shall be forfeited and liable to seizure accordingly. All duties of Customs under this Act shall be charged and paid according to the standard imperial weights and measures and where such duties are charged according to any specified quantity woight or size the same shall bo chargeable rateably on any greater or less quantity weight or size. The duties of Customs imposed by this Act shall be raised levied collected and paid uudcr the provision of "The Customs Regulation Act, 1858," and subject also to all such provisions and regulations as may for tiino being be in force for the collection management and receipt of the duties of import in the colony of New Zealand. The "Customs Duties Amendment Act 1861 " and the "Military Supplies Customs Act 1862" shall apply to all duties of Customs payable under this Act. In the event of any increase under this Act in the duties of Customs chargeable upon any goods 1 wares or merchandise after tho making of any contract or agreement for tho sale or delivery of such goods duty free it shall bo lawful for tho seller in case such increase shall accrue before the clearance nnd delivery from the warehouse of 'such goods at such increased duty and after payment thereof to add so much money to tho contract price as will be equiva.en to such in rease of duty and ho shall be entitled to be paid and to suo for and recover tho same.
DECISIONS of tho Honorable the Commis. sioner of Customs on Entries by which various Importurs have paid Duty under protest on the undermentioned Articles, from the Ist January to 31st December, 1865,
The following are liable to Duty under SubSection No, 4. of Section 111. of " Tho Now Customs Duties Act, 1864" : —Agricultural Implements— viz., Clmff Cutters, Harrow*, and Ploughs. Iron Manufactures— viz., Castings, Cranes, Lamp Posts, Ridgiug, Axlo Arms, Standards Sofa Springs, and Tanks. Machines —viz., Boring, Drilling, Mortising, Paper Cutting, Plaining, Punching, Saw-punch, Shearing, Thrashing, Washing, and Weighing. Metal pipe. Screw-cutting Lathes, The following under Sub-Section No. 7 :—: — Carpet Bngs, Forfar Sheeting, Hats (packed in hat-cases) . Lime Jnicc, Manufactures of Jute or Hemp mixed with Silk, Cotton, o Wool, Paper Collais, Preserved Food •— viz., Fish, Meats, Tripe and Vegetables, Scrim or Papering Canvas, So'ip and Bouilli (in tins). The following under Sub-Section No. 14, arc not liable to Duty :— All Metals manufactured into Rod, Bolt, Bar, and Sheeth. Bath Bricks, Biscuits (dnsweetened), Carbojiate of Soda, Chains, Cheese, Felt, Groats, Harness Liquid, Herrings, Iron Wire for fencing, as rod iron, Lucifer of all kinds, Manufactures of Jute or Hemp, umnixed with any of tho material enumerated in Sub-Section No. 7, Oaimenl, Pap"r, Painkiller, Salt, Sago Saispn.ilto, Shackles for cables Soap Powder Starch Thuui Blue Vestas Washing Soda or Powder. f?.
