Auotion Advertisements. TO MINING COMPANIES, SPECULATORS AND OTHERS. TWELVE HOUSE POWER PORTABLE STEAM ENGINE, TO ARRIVE. TJICHARD REEVES and Co. have occivod instructions from tho consignees o soil on an early day (due notice of which will bo given), 12-Horso Power Portable Steam Engino, of the celebrated manufacture of Marshall, Son & Co., Britannia Iron Works, Gainsborough. Tho boilor is multi-tubular ; the shell is of bost Staffordshire plate, and tho firebox all of Low Moor iron ; the tubes are wrought iron, woll disposed for strength, and with ample spaco^for the circulation of wator, and tho settling of sodiment j tho ash pan fits closoly to the bottom of firo-box, and has a flap-door attached to regulate the draught. The appendages comprise second lock-up safety valve, stoamo pressure guago and signal whistle, stoam indicator, glass-water guago, guage cock, blow-off cock, &o. Tho boilor is clothed with hair folt, lagged with wood, and cased with sheet iron, and its capacity is larger than usual for tho nominoljpowor of tho engiuo. Tho working parts of tho engine are arranged with much simplicity on the top of tho boiler, where they can bo well seen and easily got at by an attendant. By an improved self-contained" arrangomont of cylinder and stoam chest> access can be had to the slido, throttle, and stop-valves, by simply taking off tho steam-chost id. The cylinder is also covered with hair folt, wood and sheot iron, in tho same way as tho boilor, and fitted with connected blow-off cocks and grease cups. The piston is metallic, and of improved construction, and has a stool piston rod ; tho slido bars and valvo rods are also of stool, Tho crank shaft is made of the best scrap ron of tho locomotive form, and of sufficient length to carry a fly-whoel at ono end, and a pulley at tho other, so that tho machinery can bo driven from either sido of tho engine, or both sides at tho same time. Tho fly-wheel is turned on its periphery, and being accurately countorwoighted, longitudinal vibration of the ongine is prevented, which, when it occurs, not only increases wear and tear, but is a frequent causo of the driving strap running off. Provision is made for rovorsing the motion of tho engine by a simple admstnaent of the slido valvo eccentric, and tho speed is regulated by a diroot-acting govornor. A force pump, driven vertically from the crank shaft, is attached to the boilor for supplying it with wator ; but a Gifford's injector can be applied instead if required. All pins, eyes, and nuts, are case hardened ; and self-acting lubricators, wrought out of tho solid material, are fitted to tho journals and slidos. This engino is fitted with a complete sot of caso-hardenedjhainmers, firing tools, funnel, tube, brush, oil feeder, spare guago glass, spare fusible plug, and a waterproof cover, and furnished with chock chains, ock ohains, shoe and chain. This engino has been tested under steam at a high pressure before it left the works. Tho power is calculated at 351bs pressure of steam in the boiler, but it may bo safely worked at 601bs pressure (tho boilerplates being of extra strength, and thoroughly well stayed) at which it would give off double its nominal power. This guage is made to template and guage thoughout. For further particulars apply to the auctioneers. RICHARD REEVES & CO., 2459 | Wharf-streot. THIS DAY, FRIDAY, MAY 25, At 12 o'clock sharp.
