Auction Advertisements. TO MINING COMPANIES, SPECULATORS AND OTHERS. TWELVE HORSE POWER PORTABLE STEAM ENGINE, TO ARRIVE. T3ICHARD REEVES and Co. havo Xv ccoivod instructions from tho consignees o sell on an early day (duo notice of which will bo given), 12-Horso Power Portablo Steam Engino, of tho celebrated manufaoturo of Marshall, Son & Co., Britannia Iron Works, Gaiusborough. Tho boilor is multi-tubular ; tho shell is of best Staffordshire plate, and tho firebox all of Low Moor iron ; tho tubes aro wrought iron, woll disposed for strength, and with ample spaco'for the circulation of water, and the settling of sediment ; tho ash pan fits closely to tho bottom of firo-box, and has a flap-door attached to regulate the draught. The appondagos comprise second lock-up safety valvo, steame pressure guago and signal whistle, steam indicator, glass-water guago, guage cock, blow-off cock, &o. Tho boilor is clothed with hair felt, lagged with wood, and cased with sheet iron, and its capacity is largor than usual for tho nominaljpowor of tho engine. Tho working parts of tho ongino aro arranged with much simplicity on the top of tho boilor, whore thoy can bo woll seen and oasily got at by an attendant. By an improved self-contained arrangement of cylinder and steam chest, accoss can bo had to tho slide, throttle, and stop-valves, by simply taking off tho stoam-chost id. Tho cylinder is also covered with hair felt, wood and sheet iron, in tho same way as tho boilor, and fitted with connected blow-off cocks and greaso cups. Tho piston is metallic,* and of improved construction, and has a steol piston rod ; tho slide bars and valve rods aro also of steol, Tho crank shaft is made of tho best scrap ron of tho locomotive form, and of sufficient length to carry a fly-wheel at ono end, and a pulley at the othor, so that tho machinery can bo driven from either side of tho engine, or both sides at tho samotimo. Tho fly-wheel is turned on its periphery, and being accurately countorwoighted, longitudinal vibration of tho ongino is provented, which, when it occurs, not only increases wear and toar, but is a frequent causo of tho driving strap running off. Provision is mado for reversing tho motion of the engine by a simple admstment of the slide valvo eccentric, and tho speed is regulated by a direct-acting governor. A force pump, driven vortically from tho crank shaft, is attached to the boiler for supplying it with water ; but a Gifford's injector can bo applied instead if required. All pins, oyes, and nuts, aro caso hardened ; and self-acting lubricators, wrought out of tho solid material, aro fitted to the journals and slides. This engino is fitted with a comploto set of case-hardenedjhammers, firing tools, funnel, tube, brush, oil feeder, spare guage glass, spare fusible plug, and a waterproof cover, and furnished M'ith check chains, ock chains, shoo and chain. This engino has been tested under steam at a high prossuro beforo it left tho works. Tho power is calculated at 351bs prossuro of steam in tho boilor, but it may bo safely worked at 60lbs pressure (tho boilorplatos being of oxtra strength, and thoroughly well stayed) at which it would givo off double its nominal power.
