ADJOURNED ENQUIRY INTO WRECK OF THE MARIA.

In consequence of tho illness of Mv Patten and Captain Turnbull, the resumed enquiry into the wreck of tho Maria, which was fixed for yesterday, has been further postponed until Tuesday next at noon. Tho clipper schoouer Jano Lockhart, Captain Smith, from Sydney, arrived off .the harbor on Thursday evening, but the captarn deemed it prudent to stand off and on until yesterday morning, when sho came to an anchor at 5 a.m. Sho reports leaving Sydney on the 3rd instant, and experienced light easterly winds throughout the passage. She made tho land off Hokitika on tho 16th iustant, and brings a full general cargo j nlso 20 stecrngo and 7 cabin passengers. The Challenge, onThursday night, proceeded over tho bar, at lO o'clock, to attend upon the Bchooner Jane Lockhart, which vessel sho towed into port yesterday morning at high water, previously towing into port tho small schooner Emma Jane, from Onehunga via tho Grey, where she had to put in for provisions. The Emma Eliza, Bchoonor, from Okarita, was towed in this morning by tho steam-tug Lioness. Sho reports having left Okarita on Wednesday, 16th hist., but thick weather and strong winds off tho land drove her off the coast, aud only reached tho roadstead this morning at 9 a.m. Tho entrance at Okarita is reported as narrow and tho channel tortuous. The Fairy, in attempting to sail out. was driven nshorc, where she lay when tho Emma Eliza loft. The p.s. Persovero was despatched for tho Grey yesterday afternoon, after landing all cargo from the Claud Hamilton, aud conveying passengers on board from this port for tho different New Zealand ports. Sho thon steamed on to tho Grey, whore sho is to attend upon tho same steamer that vessel having steamed down to the Groy en route for Nelson.
