The s.s. Claud left Nelson at 10.30 a.m. on tho 15th j landed passengers and freight at Groymouth at noon on tho 16th, anchoring off this port at 2 p.m. on tho same day. Experienced fine weather throughout, with smooth •water. Tho p.s. Persevere arrived from tho Grey yesterday morning at 1 o'clock. Hor performances at tho Grey rivor were towing out the Excelsior for tho Manukau, and the Secret, ketch, into tho Grey, after landing cargo and passengers from Hokitika. Sho yesterday attended upon the Claud Hamilton, and landed thirty seven passengers and twenty tons of cargo, having loft tho Grey at 9 p.m. for Hokitika. Captain Macmeikan reports a rush north of tho Grey, whoro tho Woodpecker, p.s., had sailed for with upwards of 100 passengers. The schooner Dispatch sailed from Dunedin on Ist May for this port 5 cloared Tararoa Head same afternoon, with a strong southwest wind. On tho 3rd, cloared Steven's Island, and from that date experienced till the end of tho voyage fine weather and light variable winds. On tho 14th, spoko tho ketch Pearl off tho Buller, bound for Polorus Sound. The Dispatch arrived off tho coast yesterday morning at daylight, haying made, undor tho circumstances, an excellent run of sixteen days from anchorage to anchorage. Yesterday tho Lioness went out to bring the Dispatch in, but owing to tho tide being too far on tho ebb, it was delayed until to-day, when Bho was brought safely alongside tho wharf. On tho hutches being opened tho cargo presented a bono dry condition-t-tho packagos, ovon at tho combings, being in splendid condition. Such carefulness on tho part of Captain Kcenan is more than commendable. Tho Challenge towed out yesterday fho Thane of Fife, schooner, for tho Manukau, and the J. B. Eußsell, for Ijyttolton. The Lioness yesterday towed in tho brigantine Dispatch with Bafety- to tho wharf, and subsequently backed astern whero tho Lloyd's Herald was to be launched to tako her in tow; after some littlo delay the old craft came down tho ways into tho water, a broad•ide launch, with great success, and was towed to tho wharf by tho Lioness. Tho schooner Caledonia arrived in the harbor on the 16th instant, after an unusually long passage, having left Dunedin on tho 7th April. Had moderate and light breozDS from tho south-west, until reaching Capo Campbell on tho night of tho 9th 5 had Strong N.W. winds in Cloudy Bay until tho 15th, when fresh breezes from tho S.E. carried her round Capo Farewell. On 15th put into Wanganui Inlet, remaining thoro for

twontyono days, during tho whole of which time there was nothing but a succession of S.W. gales. Got outside on tho Blh May, and until the 13th experienced light winds. Spoko tho schooner Emma Jane on 11th from Manukau, bound for Grey River, short of provisions and water, and assistod them. Arrived off Ilolcitika, as wo havo stated, on 16th instant. Tho B.s. Kennedy loft Nolson afc 10 p.m., on Monday, tho 1-1-tli instant, calling at Wnngnmii Inlot tho next day, where sho landod passengers and cargo, and loffc tho next day for this poit, arriving in harbor at 9 a.m. Sho disohni gml a largo cargo yesterday, and leaves for tho Grey this day, at 11 a.m., whero sho has a larg o cargo to dolivor, from which place she proceeds to Nolson, Mr Robert Graham, who arrived in town yesterday, reports that tho wreck of a ciitlor had boon washed ashore on Monday last, on tho beacli between Waiuku and tho Mauukau near tho Pollock Shaw Settlement. Sho seomod to havo been in tho water about a month, as barnacles wore ndhoring to her docks. Sho had a round stern, was paiutod black, and the- registered tonuago 18 48-100 was marked on tho hatchway. Tho only things found on board woro a rovolver, empty sacks, single-barrelled gun, carpenter's tools, a watch, purao (contaiuiug ono sovereign, somo coppors, and 2s 6d in silver), a flute, and a bag containing female clothing. There is but little doubt, that it is tho Quickstep, cutter, Captain Fisher, which loffc tho Manukau for tho Grey Rivor, about tho 25th of March last, with a cargo of potatoes in bulk, as tho tonnago marked on tho hatchway (18 48-100) almost agrees with tho Quickstop's tonnage, 18 47-140. Tho Quickstop was uninsured, but tho Now Zealand Insurance Company havo a small risk of £50 on her. Wo hope soon to loam more particulars about this wreck. — " Now Zealand Herald," May 4.
