Miscellaneous TO MINING COMPANIES, SPECU LATORS AND OTHERS. TWELVE HORSE POWER PORT ABLE STEAM ENGINE, TO ARRIVE. TJICHARD REEVES and Co. have eceivod instructions from the consignees 0 sell on an early day (due notice ol which will be given), 12-Horse Power Portable Steam Engine, of the celebrated manufacture of Marshall, Son & Co.j Britannia Iron Works, Gainsborough. The boiler is multi-tubulav ; the sholl is of best Staffordshire plate, and the firebox all of Low Moor iron ; the tubes are wrought iron, well disposed for strength, and with ample space'for the circulation of water, and the settling of sediment ; the ash pan fits closely to the bottom of fire-box, and has a flap-door attached to regulate the draught. The appendages comprise second lock-up safety valve, steamo pressure guage and signal whistle, steam indicator, glass-water guago, guago cock, blow-off cock, &c. The boiler is clothed with hair felt, lagged with wood, and cased with sheet iron, and its capacity is larger than usual for the nominal power of the engine. The working parts of the engine aro arranged with much simplicity on the top of the boiler, where they can be well seen and easily got at by an attendant. By an improved self-contained arrangement of cylinder and steam chest, access can bo had to the slide, throttle, and stop-valves, by simply taking off the stoam-chost id. The cylinder is also covered with hair felt, wood and sheet iron, in the same way as the boiler, and fitted with connected blow-off cocks and grease cups. The piston is metallic, and of improved construction, and has a steel piston rod ; the slide bars and valve rods are also of steel, The crank shaft is made of the bost scrap iron of the locomotive form, and of sufficient length to carry a fly-wheel at one end, and a pulley at the other, so that the machinery can be driven from either side of the engine, or both sides at the same time. The fly-wheel is turned on its periphery, and being accurately counter weighted, longitudinal vibration of the engine is prevented, which, when it occurs, not only increases wear and tear, but is a frequent cause of the driving strap running off. Provision is made for reversing the motion of the engine by a simple adjustment of the slide valve eccentric, and the speed is regulated by a direct-acting governor. A force pump, driven vertically from the crank shaft, is attached to the boiler for supplying it with water ; but a Gilford's injector can be applied instead if required. All pins, eyes, and nuts, aro case hardened ; and self-acting lubricators, wrought out of the solid material, aro fitted to the journals and slides. This engine is fitted with a complete set of case-hardenedjhammers, firing tools, funnel, tube, brush, oil feeder, spare guago glass, spare fusible plug, and a waterproof cover, and furnished with check chains, ock chains, shoo and chain. This engine has been tested under steam at a high pressure before it loft the works. The power is calculated at 351bs prossuro of steam in the boiler, but it may be safely worked at 601bs pressure (the boilerplates • being of extra strength, and thoroughly •well stayed) at which it would give off double its nominal power. This guage is made to template and guage thoughout. For further particulars apply to the auctioneers. RICHARD REEVES & CO., 2459 Wharf-street. THIS DAY, At XI o'clock. PRIME FAT NELSON WEDDERS.
