It was delivered at our office this morning.] Arrived* —May 12th, City of Newcastle, from Lyttolton; 13th, Claud Hamilton, from the South,; 14th, Keera, from Hokitika. Ciuus'icniuitOH, Tuesday, 5.5 p.m. Sailed. —Cissy, ship, for Newcastle. The Hungitoto has arrived at Dunedin.
J. It. Planohe's successful comic drama, "Not a Bad Judgo," was playod for tho j second timo, at tho Prince of Wulcs Opera Uou6o, last evening, and was recoivod with the greutost satisfaction by a largo aud approoiativo audionca. Wo consider this ono of th« best of P.lnncho,B plays. Tho language is classical throughout, and the characters are elaborately drawn. It ii not altogether an original production on the part of tho author. That noblo specimon of Moliore'i genius, "Tho TartiuTo," has bocn largoly drawn upon by Planche in the production of this piece. Wo consider Mr. Bartlolt's asßunip* tion of tho loading character " Lovator," to be a, jnastorpicco of acting, It prores hi» conception to bo that of a deop thinker and a scribbler j tho ombodiment of a mau used to woll-oducated uud polished sooioty. Every line in the part was niado to toll, and from tho ri«o to tho fall of tho curtain tho iutcrost of tho audwnco was kept keenly alive. Mr. Liouol Harding, as tho Mnrquiß, displayed his usual tact and skill. Mr Andrews mado a good " Belmun,' 1 and Messrs. Strcoton and Hogau desorvo prniso for their respective- performances of tho Count do Steinborg and Zug. Miss Kosa Cooper playod the small part of Louise with great animation, and by her olovor and ladyliko assumption addod materially to tho success of tho picco. Wo hope wo shall havo another opportunity $ witnessing this drama. This evoning, "Black-eyed Susan" will bo produced for tho first timo horo ; and on Thursday, tho groat play, entitled "The Sea of Ico," will bo performed, Mr Bartlett appoaring as Carlos, and Miss Rosa Coopor as tho Hbroino. No oxponso has been spared to mako this " revival" a success. Wo havo to correct an accidental orror in our critique- on tho performance of Romeo and Juliot on Monday ovoning. Mr Touilinson was mentioned as tho actor who gave such a finished and oflbctivo portraituro of tho apothecary. It was Mr llogun who playod tho part, and to whom all tho praise- wo bestowod on tho porformanco is due. We lcaru that the p.s. Nelson, whick during tho groalor part of last winter lay on tho North iipii, here, was launched, gailod for Nelson, where sho received extensive ropnirs, and sailed for tho Groy, only to b« again cast up on the beach thero, a fow days ago sailed from that port for Nelson, making tho trip up in twenty-sovon hours. Tho " Grey Eiver Ai-gus," of 271h instant, says that tho Wonga Wonga is coinplotoly smashed up, but hor ongino3 and boilor and fittings havo beou scoured. Wo understand it is intonded to put tho ongincs in tho Murray, and ro-convert that vossol into a steam[boat.
