TO MINING COMPANIES, SPECULATORS AND OTHERS. TWELVE HORSE POWER PORTABLE STEAM ENGINE, TO ARRIVE. "piCHARD REEVES and Co. have eceived instructions from the consignees o sell on an early day (duo notice of which will bo given), 12-Horso Powor Portable Steam Engine, of tho celebrated ananufacture of Marshall, Son' & Co., Britannia Iron Works, Gainsborough. • Tho boiler is multi-tubular ; the shell is of best Staffordshire plate, aud the firebox all of Low Moor iron ; tho tubes aro j wrought iron, well disposed for strength, and with ample spaco for tho circulation of water, and tho settling of sediment ; the ash pan fits closely to tho bottom of fire-box, and has a flap-door attached to regulate the draught. Tho appendages comprise second lock-up safety valve, steame pressure guage and signal whistle, steam indicator, glass-water guage, guagc cock\ blow-off cock, &c. Tho boiler is clothed with hair felt, lagged with wood, and cased with sheet iron, and its capacity Ms larger than usual for tho nomiualjpower of the engine. The working parts of tho ongino aro arranged with much simplicity on tho top of the boiler, where thoy can be woll seen and easily got at by an attendant. By an improved self-contained arrangement of cylinder and steam chest, access can bo had to the slide, throttle, and stop-valves, by simply taking off tho steam-chest id. The cylinder is also covered with hair felt, wood and sheet iron, in the same way as the boiler, and fitted with connected • . blow-off cocks and grease cups. The piston is metallic, and of improved construction, and has a steel piston rod ; tho slide bars and valve rods are also of stcol, The crank shaft is made of tho best scrap iron of tho locomotive form, and of sufficient length to carry a fly-wheel at ono end, and a pulley at the other, so that the machinery can be driven from either side of tho engine, or both sides at the same timo. Tho fly-wheel is turned on its periphery, and being accurately counterweighted, longitudinal vibration of the engino is prevented, which, when it occurs, not only increases wear and tear, but is a frequent cause of tho driving strap running off. Provision is made for reversing the motion of the engino by a simplo adjustment of tho slide valve eccentric, and the speed is rogulated by a direct-acting governor. A forco pump, driven vertically from the crank shaft, is attached to tho boiler for supplying it with water ; but a Gifford's injector can bo applied instead if required. All pins, eyes, and nuts, aro case hardened ; and self-acting lubricators, wrought out of tho solid material, are fitted to the journals and slides. This engino is fitted with a complete set of case-hardenedjhammers, firing tools, funnel, tube, brush, oil feeder, spare guago glass, spare fusible plug, and a waterproof cover, and furnished with check chains, ock chains, shoo and chain. This engino has been tested undpr steam /at a high pressure before it left tho works. The power is calculated at 351bs pressure of steam in the boiler, but it may bo safely worked at" 60lbs pressure (the boilerplates being of extra strength, and thoroughly well stayed) at which it would givo ofl double its nominal power. This guago is made to template and guago thoughout. Jfiov further particulars apply to the auctioneers. RICHARD REEVES & CO., ayji9 Wharf-street,
