HOKITIKA HOSPITAL.

Dr. Ryley, tho Snrgcon-Suporinten-dent of the Hospital, has presented his monthly report of the state of that institution for, 1 April. Dr. ltyley's reports wore formerly communicated to us 'for publication, in accordance with the universal practice prevailing elsewhere, hut under tho regulation laid down by ;Mr Commissioner Sale, those reports ! have now, together with other official documents, to be subjected to revision 'before they aro allowed to see the light, I lost, we presume, something not favorjable or flattering to authority should leak out. We are permitted to use the tabular statement supplied by Dr. Ryley, and an "extract" from his leport as under. What the remainder of it contained that rendered it inexpedient to hand the report in its integrity to the press for publication, can {only be a matter of conjecture. Probably veiy little of any importance. jßut wherever authority steps in to '"supervise" official documents and suppress portions of them, there is ] always ro )in for suspicion that it has ,boen found necessary to keep back something very damaging.
