Leading Lights and Beacons for Newcastle, New South Wales.

In order to increase tho facilities for navigating Newcastle Harbor, leading lights for entering, and also leading lights for taking tho north channol, will be exhibited on and after Tuesday, the Ist May.

The two fairwuy lights for entering (red and bright), will bo shown from boacons 228 feet apart, in a S.W. half S. and NE. half N. direction, oreotod on a clear upaco of ground on the hill at the back the town, betwoon tho Wosloyan and Catholic churches. Tlioso for taking tho north channol, also rod bright, will bo shown from boacons erected on tho breakwater in tho vioiuity of tho old Bull Beacons, at a distanco of 100 foot apart, in a W. by N. and E. by S. direction. , In bofch cases, when tho lights are in lino, tho bright will bo tho uppermost and tho red tho lowermost of tho two. In tho daytime, however, tho order of colors will bo reversed, as it is intended to paint tho upper boncous red and tho lowor ones white. The lowor or north-eastern of tho two obelisks at present used for tho leading mark in. situated on Shepherd's Hill, will bo removed, as likewise will bo tho remnant of tho Bull boacons on tho breakwater. Tho exhibition of these leading lights will not necessitate different sailing directions to thoßO alroady published, any moro than tho lights and now beacons being substituted for tho obolisks and boacons which aro at prosont in use. In entering the port of Nowcastlo at night great caution will bo necessary, in consequonco of tho strength of tho tido, and duo allowance will havo to bo made for ebb or How, on sightiug tho north channol lights, and about to niter course from S.W. £ S., with tho fairway lights in ono, to W. byN., tho direction which a vessel will havo to steer to keep tho north channel lights in lino to gain an anohovago in tho north harbor.
