(From tho Government Gazette, of March 6.) North -East Coast op Australia. — Coiul 1 Patch in Blackwood Channel. Information lias been received at tho Admiralty that 11.M.5. Salamander, January 20, 1865, whilst steering to tho south-west through ' tho Black\yood clmnnol, on tho routo recommended, from Raino Island towards tho Middle' Bank, struck on an unknown coral patch, with only seven feet on its shoalost part at low water. - The patch Hob about a mile E.S.E. of the eastern part Of the Middlo Banks, or in lat. lldeg. 47min. lOseo. S. j lon. 143deg. 41min. t 35see. E. It is about 230 yards long, cast and west, flO yards wide, has ten to seventeqn fathoms all round it, and fifteen to soventeen fathoms in tho channel, a mile wide, botween ii and tho reef in connection with tho eastern sand bank on the Middlo Banks. Prom its ehoalesfc spot of soven feet, the centre of the eastern sand bank on tho Middlo Banks bears W. \ N., distant two nnd a half miles, and tho south extreme of Sir Charles Hardy Islands S.W. fourteen and a hulf mileß. Vessels ontering tho Groat Barrier Reof by tho Raino Island ontiance, should, as soon as •possible aftor passing north or south of Eaino Island, bring its beacon to boar N.
