MR. MOORHOUSE.
Mr. Moorhouse left town early yesterday morning, recalled to Christchurch by< political causes. Before leaving he ad- . dressed the following hurried letter to Mr Eicke, his proposer at the recent election :—: — 4 Sib, — Advices from Christohuroh convince me that my duty mnst take me across the Hill. So I must cay a hurried good bye for awhile. 1 hopo you will not fail to communicate to our frionds that I am very proud of tho honor of representing WestlanJ, more especially undor tho vory interesting circumstances surrounding my present position. I hopo indulgont frionds will .not expect too much, at the same tirao I do hopo that I may * bo expected to do nothing outside what is perfectly siuglominded and. wise. My friends on tho East Coast I am sure are prepared to eiidorso all my engagements to Weßtland, and I am bound to say that I am quito surprised and gratified to find that Wostluud is so wise and . moderate in its demands. This community baa the advantage of^an ,■ experience which has been denied to the settlore on tho other side. If fortune -should favor my pretensions to tho office of Superintendent, I ahull have large powers to do u'ood. 1 hopo in such case you may not bo disappointed. In any case I 'shall not forget your trustfulness, but shall feel it inoumbont on me to help and protect the interests of my constiluonoy .by every means in my power. 1 regret I cannot take means to convey to all my supporters my thanks for their confldonoo. I trust you will at your convenience take occasion to express my obligations with all kind wishes. Your 3 Sco., W. S. MOOBHOUSK. Hokitika, 29th Maroh, 1866.
