The cutter Lapwing loft Manakau bound to tins port on tho 18th inst. Up to tho 22nd «he experienced moderate breezes and lino weather, but on that dato sho fell in with a heavy gale from the S.S.W., which lasted without intermission until the 25th, attended by a heavy sea. In tho midst of the galo it was discovered that tho vessel had sprung a leak, and tho pumps had to bo kept constantly going to keep it under. On tho evening of tho 25th sho was close to tho land, but light variable winds kept her at so»' until yesterday evening, when she was picked up by tho Persevere, steam tug, two miles from shore, and towed to the wharf. Tho Lapwiug brings a full cargo of potatoes. Tho Wm. Miskin arrived from tho South yesterday, having oxtonded her trip to the Blue Rivor. On Saturday last sho loft this port for Okarita with 100 passongors, arriving at her destination noxt day (tho 25th) at 6 ».m., and landod hor liviug froight. A heavy rush to Bruco Bay having set iv, sho soon refilled, taking on board besides 40 tons of cargo, and at 5.30 tho same day stcorcd out of Okarita bound to that port, and anchored off it at 6 a.m. on tho 26th. The weather boing fine and wator smooth, she diioharged in a {evr hours, and then hovo un and proceeded as far as Blue Rivor, olosoly examining tho coast on her way, and reached that rivor by 12*40 p m., and landed, but saw no diggers, although traces of them wero discovered. Reports that no difliculty was oxporienced in taking a boat over tho bar ; thoro was 8J foot of water on it at low tido. and no •urf running. Tho Miskin was anchored closo
to the shore, in ton fathoms watov, anchorage good, but fa little further north tho bottom is described as being exceedingly foul. Left Blue Rivor at 2 p.m., and pas ed Bruce Bay and Oknvita without calling. Betwoen Paringa Bluff (which shollers Bruco Bay) and Okarita, tho patent log gave a distance of 87£ miles. Tho William Miskin anchored oil Hokitika at 2 a.m. yestorday, and renchod tho wharf at 6 a.m.
