TOTARA HOSPITAL.

A meeting of the Totara Hospital Committee was held at 8 o'clock on Friday evening last, at the Court-house, Ross, Town. Justine Aylmer, Esq., having been called to the chair, opened the proceedings by referring to the progress already made by the originators and promoters of the movement. Much had already been effected, although not to such an extent aa was desirable ; he, however, had no doubt that if the course which had already been pursued was persevered in, a lmspitaf would yet bo erected alike creditable to themselves as beneficial to the district they resided in. Tho secretary having obtained permission, laid before the meeting his finnncial statement, which was to the following effect : — Amount of subscriptions already paid up, JL'GO 18s. 6d. Promised amounts, but not yet paid, £25 4s. Total, £86 2s. 6d. In alluding to the unpaid subscriptions, the secretary informed the meeting that they could be collected at once, aa the names of those gentlemen against whose names the sums were placed were undeniable. The committee might therefore consider they had at their disposal the above total amount. A resolution was then carried, that on Thursday, the 29th March, the Committee should visit the different parts of the district and actively canvass the miners for subscriptions in behalf of the institution, and it was hoped that funds would bo forthcoming which would enable them to commence the building at once. Tho committee trusted the Government would subsidize the sum collected. One of the gentlemen present informed the meeting that he believed it was the intention of the Wcsloyan body to give a tea meeting in aid of the Hospital on Good Friday. The meeting terminated with a vote of thanks to tho Chairmau, as ono evev foremost in promoting those movements that would be likely to prove most conducive to the wolfaro of the district.
