MINING BOARD.

TO THB BDITOB OF THB WBST COAST TIMES.

Sir, — I see in . tho newspapors that tho inhabitants Jof tho Kanieri hold a meeting to tako into consideration tho formation of a Mining Board. I say some of tho inhabitants, as I fool quito sure that nono of the praotioal minors of that distriot had anything to do with tho movement. Mining Boards as a rule aro composod of a class of men who never washed an ounce of gold in their lives ; men who can talk mining no doubt very knowingly, and who hang about a mining township pioking up a living in a very doubtful manner, would bo knowing ones who like to see their names in print. Had these knowing ones at the Kaniori over looked into tho Oanterbuey Mining Rules and Regula* itions, they would have soon that it was in the powor of tho miners to have any of the rules altered to suit tho district,. and in a far oheaper and better manner than they proposed. I would point out to thoso gentlemen olauso 16' sootion XV, pago 36, of the Canterbury Goldfiolds Regulations. Instead of wasting their time about Mining Boards, if thoy had discussed the present regulations and pointed out those that wero not applicable to thoir distriot and suggested others in thoir place, thoy would havo been doing some good for tho mining community. A mining • board was once formed at Tuapeka. Most of your roaders will remem« bor that august body aud its ond. If the miners require any alteration in tho regulations, let them try to obtain it by tho moans I have pointed fout, and not trust their property in the hands of amateur minors. Yours Ac, X. Y. 0, Poij; Office, Ifau,
