Per Australian Maid — paid, 25 tons potatoes, 25 boxes apples, Louisson and Co. The p.s. Yarra has been kid up abreast tho Custom House, for tho purpose of undergoing a thorough overhaul. She will bo ready for work again by the end of this week or tho beginning of the next, and m tbo meantime* tho p.B. Persevere will take her place. At present) that useful little steamer is lying in the roadstead waiting the arrival of the Egmont, s.s. We exceedingly regret having to report tho brigantine William (which grounded on the North Spit on Saturday last) a total wreck. At first we ventured to hopo that by lightening her of cargo her removal into tho river would have been effected, and no material damage have resulted. Wo were, however, mistaken, for being an old vossol she was unable to withstand the Imfletting she received on Saturday and Sunday nights, which so strained hor that several of her butt ends wore started, and on a survey boing held she was condemned. Fortunately, her cargo received but little damage, and was all safely landed on tho Spit, and on Tuesday she was dismasted and everything moveable taken out of her. It was well tho precaution was taken, for during that night sho slipped off tho bank into deep water, and now lies with hor fore part submerged at half tido. Yesterday the wreok was sold by public auction by Mr B. Beeves, for tho sum of £10. Tho loss falls entirely upon her owners, as sho •was not underwritten. So cuds the career of the William, a well-known old colonial trador She was built in N.S.W.,' and thoro aro few, if atly.vessels now runniug in Australian waters of the samo ago as herself. In her timo she has had many narrow escapes from wreck, and more than onco has been in serious diflioulty, but the substantial manner in whioh sho was built saved her, and proved bow excellent is tho material uftbrdod by t|io Australian forosts for ship-building purposes. At present the wreck is in a most awltward position, threatening to seriously obstruct thContranco to tho river, especially now that tho channel lies so far to the northward. Wo trust stops will bo taken to at once romove as much of it -as possible, ,«nd that, if necessary, powder will not bo spared to shatter itr,' for should it shift any further into tho fairway, 1 it will in all probability oausu the loss of othor and mbro valuable yea- | wls. We have no doubt that Capt. Turnbull will ccc to this.
