Thebrig Cosmopolite leftHobartT>.wn, bound to this port, on the 11th instant, tho weather being fine with light westerly breezes. Next day the wind shifted into tho north and commenced blowing fresh in squalls, one of which struck her and carried away the mom yard in tho slings. For two days tho wind blew a steady gale from tho north, but through the accident to her yard she was unablo to tako advantage of it, being occupied most of tho time in fishing it and getting it aloft again. On tho 14th the wind died away and shifted into tho east, and hence to tho laud, light variable airs (blowing all round tho compass,) and calms prerailed. Tho Cosmopolite made the land on tho 22nd and nnchorod in the roads at oarly morning of tho 23rd, towing to the wharf astern of tho Lioness the same day. She brings a full general cargo. . The brigantine Amy Robsart oleared Sydney Heads on the lllh inst. with light N E. winds and fine weather, which she carried with her until within two hundred miles of the New Zealand coast, when the wind veered in'o the S.W. and freshened to a gale Reduced canvas and ran before ii until the land by calculation was not more than sixty miles off, when fearful of making a lee shore of it in ugly weather the brigantine* was rounded to and remained by the •wind for twelve Lours awaiting the abatement of the gale. As the weather moderated she was once more kept on her course, but through a prevalence of light east winds and calms she did not reach the roadstead until two days later, ■when she anchored on the 22m1, towing to the •wharf astern tho Lioness tho next morning at daylight. The Amy Robsart brings a full genera! cargo to tho port. The p.s. Btuce has again returned from the South, having this time extended her trip to Jackson's Bay. She left Hokitika at 4.30 pm. on the 19th, and af'er a pleasant run of five hours brought up off Okarita bar at 9.30 p.m. Next day, at 10 a.m., she orosued the bar and reached her nsual mooring place without mishap, remaining off the town that day diechargiug cargo and passengers. On the 21st, she left for Jackson's Bay, although a falling glass and rising wind from the S.W. gave evidence of an approaching gale. She, however, steamed against it until abreast of Bruce Bay, when the gale having considerably increased, accompanied by % heavy head sea, she wa;. compelled to run in for' shelter and anohor. The weather haying tqPffrmtftli lt)l>l»f» »t daylight pn the 22m), and
proceeded on her voyage with tho intention of hugging ilio const Hue all Iho way down; but on attempting to pass between Open Bay Islands and the main, the lead guvo notice that the water had suddenly shoaled from ten fathoms to fivo. At once her head was turned off shore, and an ofting made, tho passago between tho main island and reef beiug taken instead. Whilst running through it, the lead was kept cons'antly going, but no bottom was found at ten fathoms. Jackson's Bay was reached at 1.15 p.m. the same day and tho anchor Jet go in four fathoms water, there being good holding ground and excellent shelter. Here she landed twenty passengers and discharged a small quantity of cargo, leaving again in a couple of hours. Okarita roadstead was reached at 1 a.m on the 23id, and the bar crossed at daylight. After shipping some few passengers and 6000 ounces of gold dust, she left the same tide, and arrived safely at the wharf at 2.20 p.m. On her return from Jaokson'a Bay, when off tho Haaat river, a umall vessel was sighted at anchor inside, supposed to be the Oity of Nelson.
