A fatal accident is reported by Captain Hart, of the steamer Geelong, as having occurred at Oaroaru, on Sunday afternoon. The Becond mate and two of the orew of tho Star of Tasmania, with two othors, were gojiig off to the ship in a bout, and, when in the surf, the boat filled and turned over several times. Some of the men struck out for the shore, and the second mate was rescued ; but a man named Hugh U'Ph'io was drowned. The body was recovered about three quarters of an hour after the accident.- Otago Daily Times.

During her commission she has been seven times up tho Mediterranean, twice to Halifax, once round the West Indies, six times to Quebec, once to the Cape and Mauritius, and once round the world, calling at (ho Cape, Ceylon, Melbourne, Sydney, Auckland, New Zealand, and Ascension. She has steamed and sailed 135,758 miles in 556 days, consuming 80,354 tons of coal, giving an average speed of 10.2 knots an hour, and at. the rate of five miles per ton of con) consumed. During the voyages of the Himalaya she has conveyed the Japanese Amhassadorci, the Lords of the Admiralty, and the total number of 27,128 officers and men, and 5101 women aud children.— Mitchell's Register.
