The Daily Times of Jan. 22nd reports : — The quietness generally prevailing at the time of the departure of the mail, together with the unseasonable weather prevailing sif.ee, has had the effect of keeping tho week's l.usines-. within narrow Hint's, the most important item.s of which have been the auction sales of tlie cargoes of sugars, ex Falcon, from Mauritius, at Messrs M'Landre&s, Hepburn and Co.'s ; and the ;,n'es of wools respectiv-i'y at A'ps&r.s Driver, M'Lran md Co.\«, and Wright, Robertson and Co.'s stores. In flour the maiked has been destitute of animation, prices remaining as before, but closes wiih a degree of firmness which it did not possess previous to the arrival of the list intelligence from Melbourne and Sydney. A steady trade has been done in teas, at well susfaiucd rales; and a considerable part of the slock in second hands having been cleared out, dealers u;-c much more inclined to purchase. LJulk ales have exhibited no liveliness, but ales and stout in gla-s have been in fair demand, and rates aro fully kept up to recent quotations. Spirits and wines have not been dealt in to an extent calling for remark. The trade in lho leading if ems of provisions, a i.:., bacon and hams, has been confined to the passing of one or two moderate parcels yet to arrive out of the importers' hands, at the high prices recently attained 10. English cheese is much asked for ; scarcely any but new Colonial is in the market, for which Is Id is realised. Butter, now coming to hand more freely, has declined to Is Sri to ]s 9d. Oats are reported as being reduced in value, 5s to 5s 3d being present holders' rat's. All kinds of building materials are firm at la«t quoted value?. Iron, ex Paria, is reported as having been placed at full prices.
