Sir, — I really hope you are not in earnest in refusing to advocate the getting up v Petition against the immediate Kile of the public lands on the West Coast. Such a scheme ot % lohbory could only emanate from that harpy the Provincial Secretary. But, I trust, it is not too late to defeat his base intention. Let a public . meeting bo called nt once, and a committee organised to conceit some plan to avert this dreaded evil. In a former letter I advocated the formation of a " Separation League" ; and • if the rights which are justly duo to the people of Westland are not conceded, it must come to this; but after the 'lands are sold, and the proceeds grasped by the iion hand of Christchurch the thing is impossible. Lat me then implore you Sir, to re-consider your hnsly decision. Do not desert a cause you lmvo so nobly ad voeatcd.
