Mr Prossor asked tho Government if they wore- taking any steps towards tho establishment of tho escort on tho West Coast, as n district escort. Mr. Ilnll ropliod that tho Government had taken no stops yot to do so, but had tho matter under consideration. WJSSTLAND TOWN ALLOTMENTS. On tho motion of Mr. Prossor, it was . ordored that a Select Oonunittco be appointed to inquire into and report upon tho most equitable way of disposing of tho town allotments of Westlnnd, whether it bo necessary to lmvo thorn ro-surToyed, and to consider if it bo doBirablo to nUotv — whero practicable — thooriginal occupants to tako up 105 foot in depth, ns provided by the new regulations j to consist of Messrs Allington, Hall, Htiwkcs, W. Wilson, Earn 1 , W. Williams, Wilkin, Peacode, Tanercd, and tho mover, nnd to report in a week. Tuesday, January 9th, wr.st coast kstimates. The Council went into comniittco of supply on theso estimates, but no progress was made. Wkdnksday, January 10th. west coast estimates, On the motion of Mr Hall, the Council went into Committee of Supply on thco estimates, and tho following sums were passed : — Surveys, L10,55l ; Engineer's Department, L 2852 ; administration % of, justice, L 18,593 2s; Hospital and Charitable Ait', LU22O ; Harbors, LIBSO, Mr Prosser proposed the postponement of the item L10,'102 18s lCd for Gold Escort, as he wns about to bring forward a motion on tho subject on a future day. Air Hall said the item would only be passed now as n matter of form, and the Governmenl would abide by tho decision on Mr Prosser's motion on a future day. • -On tho question being rut Ihe Committee divided. Ayes, 3 • Noes, 19. Tho following sums wore" then passed — Gold Escort, L 10.402 18s lOd ; Public Buildings, L24,30G Is fid. Mr Prosser proposed that L 7.000 for Browning's pass should hoi struck out, and that the mini of L 30,000 for road by Arthur's pass bo reduced to LIO.OOO. On the question being put, the motion was negatived. Mr Barff proposed an increase in the amount for local purposes, which the Government accepted on the understanding that, the money would'only be spent if thero was the revenue to meet. it. Tho sums for Public Works, and L 2970 for Miscellaneous, wore then passed.
