MR.' ALBERT HUNT'S CLAIM.

Tho Provincial Council has, by a largo majority, rofuscd to recognise any claim on tho part of Mr Hunt to a reward for gold (liscovoi'ios on tho West Coast. Mr Uarft' moved tho adoption of an address to tlio Suporintomlont praying for £1000 to bo placed on tho Estimates. Tho motion was socondod by Mr Prossor. Mr Jollio said tho advertisement oilbring a reward wus withdrawn in 18G3, a yoar boforo Hunt diseoyorod gold in paying quantity, and two years before ho mado any claim for roward. Mr Hawkcs agreed with Mr Jollie, that Hunt bad "uo legal claim." Mr Jollio profussod n willingness lo award Hunt a sum of £200 for " his services"- l'omlorod to tho district. Mr Barf I' proposed lo nmonel his motion by substituting £500 for £1000. Mr Hnwkcs moved £250 as an amondmcnl, which Mr Uarff accoptcd. Aftoi 11 a good deal of desultory discussion aui haggling about tho exact amount to b*o awurdocl, leavo to withdraw tho motion with a viow to its ro-iutroduotion in imothor shape, was refused on division by 12 votos to 10, and in tho final division on tho reduced sum of £250, tho result was, ayes 4, noos 19. Tho ouly mombcrs of the Council who voted for ovon this amount of compensation to Mr Hunt, woro Mr Btfrll', Mr Prossor, Mr Uiuvkcs, and Mr Buckloy.
