Sydxky, Saturday, Dec. 23. A telegram from Rockhnmpton informs us that the steamer Boomerang struck upon a rock at tho , mouth of the Fitzroy River, when her fire compartment filled. She lias a cargo of wool for Sydney. The Empire publishes several letters received by the mnil, tending to confirm the statement that tho v Colonial **" Government hns beei\mossly defrauded in the purchase of railway materials. Tuesday, Dec. 26. The Ann Matilda, with' 340 tons of flour, and the Dashing Wave, with 400 tons of wheat, from Valparaiso, arrived on Sunday. Tho latter proceeds on to Melbourne. The latest Valparaiso advices respecting large shipments of breadstuff's arc very conflicting, and stop transactions, "■Wednesday, Dec. 27. A man named Nolan was killed by an excursion train at Ashficld last evening. Great interest is evinced about the intercolonial cricket match. Business is stagnant. Holders of flour are somewhat firmer. Adelaide j silk-dressed is worth £25 10s. Maize is quoted at ss, and steady. Thursday, Dec. 28. The bushrang6rs, D.unn,*Thundcrbolt, and two others, robbed Mr Rouse's station on the Macqunrie River on ■f' Saturday, and took a large amount of money and stores. < At the Ullmarra regatta a man and a child were killed by the. discharge of a gun from the flagship. Valparaiso letters confirm the previously received reports of heavy shipments* of breadstuffs being made before the ports were fiually closed. The weather continues very warm, and the want of rain" is again severely felt. Maize is at 4s lOd to ss) breadstuffs ore unchanged ; Patna rice is firmer. Mr. Watson, the telegraph stationmaster at Newcastle, was stuck up near Wollombi to-day by Yellow Jcm&y, the bushranger, who relieved him of all his cash. Tho Souchays left Sydney yctitoiday, and sails from Ncwcastlo to-night for Brisbane, whoro the proprietors have ongaged to deliver her by tho Ist of Jauuary. She will be despatched from Brisbane on her first trip on the Olh of January, without cargo or passongeis. It is proposed to make a trip every alternate month, calling at Somerset, Cape York, and on through the straits to Coepang, on tho coast of Timor, and for the first trip or two perhaps on to Batavia, where the Dutch lino of steamers between Singapore and Batav v will pick up the service. After showing what can be done by these experimental (rips, tho Government propose to throw open the mnil service, via Capo York and Timor, to tender. Marrian'a alo is worth from L 7 to L 9. Spirits arc unchanged. Toa and sugar nic in good demand, at market rates. Adkiaidk, Tuesday, Dec. 2G. Governor Daly hud sufficiently recovered from a severe attack of gout to hold a Cabinet Council to-day.. The -White- Eagle, from London, stranded off Point Malcolm, is not likely to get off for somo days. No danger to the vessel is anticipated. Mr Goodo slated in tho House in the course of the late debate on the Crown land sales, that if the present course was persisted in, all tho agricultural land in the colony would be alienated within five years. Small parcels of new wheat have been sold at 8s Cd, but there is very little coming in. Flour is scarce. Old is wanted, and new is worth £20 to £21.. The year's imports amount to L 2,500,000, and tho exports to L 2,000,000. The excess of immigration over emigration for the year is 4,000. The proceeds from land sales during tho year amounted to L 500,000, for 311,000 acres alienated. The Customs receipts for the year were L 230,000. Wednesday, Dee. 27 The Government land' Bftle to-day realised only L 4,700. The weather is very hot ; thermometer 105* in the shade. There is to be a public holiday tomorrow, in honor of tho anniversary of the foundation of the colony Wr.oat is very scarce, and* buyers are plentiful. Small parcels have been sold at 8s 7d. A sale of flour is reported at L2l ss. Sales of country brands of flour have been made to-day* at L2l ss, and town brands havo been sold at L 22 10s por ton. These prices were paid on account of telegrams received from the other colonies. * Friday, Dec. 29, A fatal affray with tho blacks has occurred ah Porigundio, near Lake Hope, on Mr Elder's station. Sonic 200 blacks attacked a party of nine whites at night, and speared four and waddied two of them. In spito of their wounds, they succeeded in driving- olf their assailants 'and shooting ono of "them The blades, however, carried oft' the horses. Two white men wero severely wounded, but none had died. Mr Elder immediately despatched a party to assist those at tho station. Yesterday was kopt as a close holiday. The weather is very hot, but there are signs of a change. Wheat is not coming in in sufficient quantities to supply tho market. Small salesj have been made at 8s Bd, A 'salo of a good town brand of flour afc L 22 2s Gd is reported.
