West Coasi Times Office, Wednesday Evening. A considerable amount of business is being done by storekeepers in executing country orders, - nnd in this branch, prices, asa rule, are steadily .maintained. In the import trade, nnd at the -auction mart, however, prices have a downward 'tendency, the markets being more than fully •supplied. Although the stock of breadstuff's on hand is not excessive, the late advices fiom Melbourne have very sensibly affected tho market. 'Christchurch flour was sold on Wednesday at Ji2s toL2O, and Adelaide at L3l. Oats, bran, •and chaff, may bo considered at present a drug, •not realising sufficient advance upon Melbourne prices to pay freight. Many parcels have been -placed at considerable sacrifice. At a sale of fblops yesterday very low prices were realised, not bo much onaccoitatof tlio niaikot being glutted, -as of -tike unsnitability of tlio consignments to "local requirements, Of wines and spirits there is a good supply. Timber, of which the ■stocks in hand have been largoly augmonted by recent arrrivals, ia unsaleable at remunerative ■rates. A sale of the schooner Maria, of Melbourne, now lying stranded on tho north spit, was effected, on Tuesday, by Messrs Binney and Co. The vessel realised LSOO. Messrs null and Finlay were tho purchasers. The duties collected on imports into Hokitika from Monday the 27th ult. to Tuesday the sth inst, inclusive,' amounted to L 2,213 Ib. 7d. Between the same dates the amonnt of gold cleared for export from Hckitika was 8,1/50 ozß., on which L 1,016, 016 17s. 6d, duty was paid, making the total customs levenue 13,229 19h. Id.
