THE LATE CASE OP DROWNING IN THE RIVER.

•TO THB EDITOR OP THB " WKB];CoAST TIMES'" Sir, — In your issue of Saturday lost, of tho 26th instant, you report the death by drowning of a roan called Jack the Carpenter, through the upsetting of a boat in the Hokitika River, but we cannot ascertain that he was recognised by any one in the boat, or at the time of the accident, and all the information we can glean would lead us to suppose that the unfortunate man is Matthew Lee Joyce, who was in our employment, and who was down the liver, about the time the accident occurred, upon business, and who has not been seen or heard of since. Sad to say there are a wife and seven children left, totally unprovided for by this lamentable occurrence, and for whose relief it is essentially necessary to devise somo means of assistance. The deceased was long established in Christchurch and well known to all old residents there, and we shall be most happy to co-operate with any one who was acquainted with him there in raising funds for the relief of those so much in 'need thereof. Trusting we have not intruded too much on your valuable space, We are, Sir, etc , Collins and Robinson. Kanieri, Nov. 29,
