Sir,— l shall bo glad if you will bo kind enough to make room in your valuable paper for these few remarks. I thought after what I had read in your valuable paper laat week respecting H.M. Huts at Hokitika there would have been a change for th 6 better ; but to my disappointment I find it woi'se, for I have been looked up in my cell for the last eleven days with six other men, committed for trial, and during that eleven days I have been allowed one half hour's exercise; and the cell that I am in is 8 x 10 feet, and it has been washed out once these last seventeen days, and my time is principally taken up in killing tho vermin, which are daily breeding in our blankets, so that if there is not a change soon I do not know what tho consequence will be as I said before. We thought wo hud some strong whiskey in this cotmtry. But wo read of a peculiar article which has lately come into voguoin London, branded L. L. ; and when a Cockney says, "Corao and 'avo a dram of double hell," ho undoubtedly gives tho right title to it. — American paper.
