THE ROAD TO WOODSTOCK.

•TO THE EDITOR OF THE "WEST COAST TIMES." Sir,— Ab a constant traveller on the road to Woodstock, I wish to call yonr attention to the' road from Hokitika ; at this end the River has completely destroyed the track, and lodged trees and bush so that it is hard for mtm to pass, for females it is almost impossible. The road on this side i 3 a perfect bog almost all the way, and soon will be perfectly impasable, by the numbers of trees that have fallen across the track and there left. Hotel Life in America.— Tired and bored, I waut to bed in the beat marble palace in the place. My door opened, and In walked a stranger without luggage. 'Sorry to disturb you,' he said, • but the hotel is very full, and I come to sleep here.' It was-a double-bedded room, so in he rolled, and I thought no more of him till morning. He rose early, donned his clothes, and then a very German voice said, * Sar, shall I use your brushes V Not even in the Far West had I met with this being, but I had read of one like him in some book or other, nnd the tooth-brush flashed in my mind. ' Sir,' I said from my blankets, 'if you will kindly use the brush with the long handle, I should prefer it.'—' Thank you sar,' he said, and did use it on his frousy head. It was one specially bought for brushing dirty coats and shoes, and constantly used for that purpose for some months. How I did inwardly grin at my bedfellow.
