REVELL STREET POND.

TO Tnß EDITOR OF THE WEST COAST TIMES.

Sin, — I notice by tho papors that there is a body of persons established hero undevvthe title of " Tho Town Improvement Committee." If they really do exist I would liko to call their attontion to tho largo pond between tho Camp and Messrs Lloyd, Taggart and Co.'s store, which renders the street almost impassablo after a fall of rain. I would suggost that it bo at once drained which could bo done at a trifling expenso ; or if it is to remain, let it bo stocked with fish, so that it might become a recreation ground for anglers. Yours, i A NEW CHUM. Sept. 23, 1865.

A rather amusing controtomps occurred ono Sunday at a country church near one of tho largest towns in Lancashire. Tho incumbent, anxious to raiso funds for somo repairs to tho church, and having but a modest opinion of his own powers as a " pickpocket," and being also unablo to secure the services of his clerical noighbors, thought ho would writo his appeal, get it printed, and placed in tho pews on the following Sunday. Ho sent his copy to tho printer's, and told tho sexton to get the bills on Saturday night, and place them in tho pews. On Saturday night tho sexton sent his son to the printer's 1 oflico, when no ono but tho "devil" of tho establishment was prosont. Tho youth handed a bundle of bills to the sexton's son, by whom thoy wore didy distributed in tho pews. Tho astonishment of tho congregation and the clergyman the next' morning on finding every pew in tho church contained copies of an announcement of tho entertainment at tho local assembly rooms of a clever Sambo singer, and the fun during the ensuing week may bo " better imagined than described." The whole affair was literally tho work of tho " devil," who carelessly gave the youtliful soxton tho bills of tlio black entertainer in placo of those of tho parson.
