Wh are informed by Captain Kerloy, the harbour master, that he is about establishing two moveable beacons on the spit, seventeen feet high, which will be surmounted by a fl.ig. The beacon kept in line with the flagstaff will denote the channel, and the flag the set of the current, a most important poiut for masters of vessels entering inwards. When one beacon cannot bo placed in a line with the flagstaff, to answer the above purpose the second one will be used, tho two then being kept in line instead of having any reference to the flagstaff. This decided improvement will be carried out at once, and will be of great servico.

Tnß following vessels are reported as having safely crossed the Groy River bar, fiom the 4th to the 13th of this month On September 4th, the s.s. Wallaby, s.a. Maid of the Yarra, s.s. Uno, p.a. Lyttelton. On tho Bth, the s.s Kleanor. Oh the 6th, schooners Pioneer and Wild Wave.- On the B'h, sb. Uno. On the 9th, uchooner Elizabeth Curio. On the 10th, schooner Midge. On the Uth, p.s Lytteltm. On the 12th, s,s Uno. The bar at present is reported as being in excellent condition with plenty of water on it, but it is supposed that in tho Bumraer time it will shallow very considerably. The Undine, schooner, from Dunedin, has arrived at the Grey, and crossed the bar in safety.

The bar is now in r.early au impassable condition, the late westerly winds having silted up tho tsand to an a'most inonceivable extent. A few days ago there were fifteen feet of water, wjiile yesterday a person might a!mos l i walk across it. Fortuna'ely, however, the wind has lulled, and the heavy fresh down the river caused by the late rains will soon reopen the o'lahncl. It is fortunate that the recent arrivals managed to land their passengers vhon they did, otherwise they would either have had to lay off the port, or have cairiud them away to Nelson. It is to be hoped that the bar will clear before the William Miskin, Lady Darling, Gothenburg, Egmont, Maid of tho Yarra ( and other boats now daily expected, arrive.
