HOKTIKA IMPROVEMENT COMMITTEE.
A meeting wns held oa Thursday evening at Bracken's Hotel. Present — Messrs Bracken, Prosser, Palmer, Anderson, Clarke (lion See.), Hawkes (in the chair.) Tho minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. Proposed by Mr Bracken, seconded by Mr Palmer — " That the following letters received from the Provincial Secretary (through Mr Sa.e) with reference to opening the port, and extending the wharf accommodation, bo received and entered on the minutes." nokitika, September*?, 1865. Gentlemen, — I havo the honor to enclose copies of letters ;, from the Piovincial Secretary, Chiistchurch, in'reply to tho memorials addressed by you to His Honor the Superintendent, ono rehting to piling the wlmrf, ami tho other to tho opening ot' tho Port of Hokitika for the importation of cuttle from Australia. Letters from applicants for tho clerkship were read, and a ballot was taken, when Mr Pardon w-is duly elected at the salary of ono pound per week. Mr Ilackett a» tended tho mooting with plans and specifications for the works to bo done, which was approved of. Proposed by Mi 1 Proper, and seconded by Mr Clarke — " That the timo for the reception of tenders bo extended to Monday next, at 6 p.m." Proposed by Mr Prossef, and seconded by Mr Bracken — " That a balance sheet of the receipts and expenditure of the Hospital Concert, bo marie out by Monday evening next, 1 lth instant, and that Messrs Hay, William*, Beldy, and M'Dermot, be written to respecting tho return of the tickets left with thorn."
