The Laughing Chancellor—This recent photograph of the Rt. Hon. Hugh Dalton, P.C., MP., MA., DSr , ‘hows the British Chancellor of the Exchequer in merry mood. Mr. Dalton has been Labour M.P. for the Bishop Auckland Division from 1929-1931 and from 1935 to the present day. Before his appointment to the Chancellorship he was Pres’dent e.f the Board of Trade, a post which he held from 1912, having previously been Minister of Economic Warfare for two years A distinguished economist, Mr. Dalton received his education tit Eton and King’s College, Cambridge. He was called to the Bar, Mi ’dl > Temple, in 1914. He was born at Neath. Glam-, sixty years ago, the son of the late Canon J. N. Dalton, K.C.V.0., CMG. On this eminently qualified man rests the entire economic structure of our country.
