MARTON BRASS BAND REFORMED

(0.C.) Marton, March 6. The Marton Municipal Brass Band which has been in receuS for the last two months is to be reformed. This decision was made at a special meeting of the committee recently, when Mr- R. F. Maloney, who sometime ago resigned from the position of conductor owing to lack of interest among members, agreed this week, to continue to wield the baton. As there are insufficient playing members at present to provide a full complement, the policy of the band committee will be to train the existing members in solo and small ensemble work, trios, quartettes, etc., until such time as the band is numerically strong enough to become a large combination. In this connection Mr. Maloney has already started a learners' class whe ■ ■ prospective players are studying .

fundamentals of theory. After a sho.. time these students will be required to pass an examination before learning the practical ,side of brass band playing. There is a nominal fee charged for this tuition and the class Is open to all, mainly 'teen age youths, who desire to start or further a musical education. Those who desire to take advantage of these classes may enroll with Mr. Maloney at the bandroom on Monday and Thursday nights.

“Thus it. will be seen that some time will elapse before the band will be in a position to play before the public, but it is felt that a band is a necessary institution in any town," said an official yesterday. “It is the desire of a few enthusiasts left to see Marton with a good band again," he added.
