Record Pipe Band Entry For N.Z. Titles

When 24 pipe bands gather in Wanganui this week for the national pipe band championships a aew record will be established, for never have so many bauds been entered for the contest.

fit all, there will be about 530 pipers and drummers in Wanganui for the contest, which is the most ambitious that the Highland Pipe Bands' Association of N.Z. (Inc.) has yet staged, and there Is every indication to suggest that it will be one of the most successful. No endeavour has been spared to make it so.

Nine A Grade bands have entered, tile same number as participated in the A Grade championship tor brass bands last week. Christchurch is sending four bands, including the St. Andrew's College Band. For the first time since 1913 Auckland will be represented in the national championships, this time by the Auckland and District Band.

Although 24 bands will be competing, only ill of them had to be provided with accommodation, and not much difficulty was experienced in arranging this. Three of the bands will be billeted at the racecourse, and one, the Ruahlne Band, will be at Upokongaro Hotel. Wanganui will be represented by two bands, for whom, of course, no accomodation had to be provided, and the Feildlng Band will be participating only in the street march, and so they also will not need accommodation.

Three college bands have entered. They are the Feildlng Agricultural High Schools Band, the St. Andrew’s College Band, and the "Wanganui Collegiate School Highland Pipe Band. First band to arrive will be St. Andrew's, due at one o’clock to-day, and the remainder, with the exception of Hawera, will be in town to-morrow. Bands entered are:— A GRADE BANDS.
