ESCAPES IN AUSTRALIA FAULTS DEVELOPED IN CONCRETE WALLS Canberra. Aug. 28. Four German prisoners of war who ' escaped recently from a camp in Victoria broke out of concrete detention cells situated outside the perimeter fence of the camp af.er they had discovered faults in the This was revealed by the Armv Minister, Mr. Ford -, who added that all the escapees had been recaptured. A fifth prisoner in the cells was caught in the act of escaping. Af..er finding the faults in the concrete. the Germans made a hole large enough for them to get out of the building. Since the arrival of prisoners of war in Australia. 12 Germans have i escaped and 10 have recaplured. Nine Italians have escaped end eight have been recap'ured. In the light of experience in other cout tries at war, the number of escapes of prisoners in Australia is extremly small.
