SENIOR APPOINTMENTS AND PROMOTIONS : The following appointments and promotions of senior officers of the • New Zealand Military Forces are announced in the Gazette last week:— 1 N.Z. Temporary Staff.—Captain F. A. Sadler is appointed adjutant of a main North Island camp and is , granted the temporary rank of major. : N.Z. Armoured Corps—Auckland (East Coast) Mounted Rifles: Captain ■ H. C. M. Matthews to be major ’ (temp.). Manawatu Mounted Rifles; Lieutenant (temp. Captain) H. R. ; Cameron to be major (temp.). : N.Z. Artillery—Major H. W. D. Blake, 2nd. N.ZE.F., to be lieutenantcolonel and is appointed to command ti field regiment, N.Z.A.; Lieutenant (temp. Captain) B. D. Fitz Gerald is appointed to command a field battery and is granted the temporary rank of major. Corps of N.Z. Engineers.—Captain 1 (temp.) V. A. Murphy to be major : (temp), and is appointed commander of engineers in a North Island division. N.Z. Defence Engineer Service Corns.—Captain (temp.) A. R. Acheson, 8.E., to be major, and is appointed to a command in the Manawatu area; Lieutenant L. May, A.M.1.C.E., to be major and is posted to a North Island section; R. H. P. Ronayne to be major (temp.) and is appointed to a command in the Bay of Plenty area; C. W. O. Turner, B.Sc. (Eng.), to be major (temp.), and is ap- ■ pointed chief engineer and buildings ' officer, headquarters, N.Z. Defence I Engineer Service Corps. N.Z. Infantry.—Canterbury Regiment: Captain A. G. Gillies, deputy ' assistant quartermaster-general in a • South Island division, to be major (temp.). N.Z. Army Nursing Service.—Sisters K. M. Williams and S. E. G. Sherrard to be charge sisters and remain second to the R.N.Z.A.F. Officers on Active Service with ttie 2nd N.Z.E.F. Overseas. N.Z. Artillery—Captain P. L. Turner to be major. N.Z. Railway Construction and Maintenance Group.—Captain D. J. B. Halley to be major and is appointed to command a railway survey company. N.Z. Infantry.—The following to be majors. Capt. (emp. Major) A. W. Cooper, Captain, R. G. Stringer, Captain W. R. K. Morrison, Captain R. W. Adams, Captain C. C. Johansen. Grants of Temporary Rank.—N.Z. Divisional Cavalry: Captain R. R. Atkinson to be major while commanding a N.Z. guard detachment. N.Z. Artillery: Major J. F. Sprosen to he lieu-tenant-colonel while commanding a field regiment: Captain D. B. Patterson to be major. N.Z. Engineers: I Captain R. C. Pemberton, M.C., to be major while commanding a training (depot. N.Z. infantry: The following to be majors while commanding a company: Captain J. C. Porter. Captain G. H. Panckhurst. Captain R. L. Hutchens. 2nd. Lieutenant (temp. Captain) C. B. Barrowclough to be major while employed as deputy Judge Advocate-General. N.Z.

Ordnance Corps. Captain N. L. Uniacke to be major while acting as deputy assistant director of ordnance supplies (engineers). N.Z. division. N.Z. Postal Corps: Captain A. V. Knapp to be major while assistant director of postal services, 2nd. N.Z.E.F. Grant of Acting Rank.—N.Z. Infantry: Captain (temp, major) J. H. Kempthorne, Southern Infantry, to be acting-lieutenant colonel while employed as general staff officer (instructor), Middle East Staff School. The following other appointments were also announced:— Colonel N. L. McKay, M.C., is appointed a fortress commander in the Auckland district. Major (temp. Lieutenant-Colonel) C. McL. Smith, relinquishes command of a battalion of the Wellington Regiment and is appointed to a fortress command in the Wellington district. The following officers are appointed brigade majors in South Island brigades: Major H. F. Allan (Nelson, Marlborough and West Coast Regiment); Lieutenant (temp. Major) E. P. Willis (Canterbury Regiment); and Captain (temp. Major) N. McD. Matheson (Otago Regiment).
