NEW OUTBREAK OF TERRORISM
TROOPS STANDING BY IN PALESTINE JEWISH OPPOSITION TO BRITISH PLAN [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] JERUSALEM, Feb. 28. Troops are standing by throughout Palestine following a new outbreak of terrorism. Aircraft co-operating With soldiers engaged a large Arab band on the main Acre-Safad Road. Nine were killed. The Jews are holding demonstrations all over the country protesting against the British Plan and some revisionists have been arrested. Street meetings are forbidden. The Jewish Mayor of Telaviv appealed for discipline and deplored the outrages. He said they were attributable to "irresponsible, conscienceless elements.” The Council in Jerusalem of the Jewish community telegraphed to the Colonial Secretary, Mr. Malcolm MacDonald, declaring that it will determinedly combat any proposals contrary to British war-time promises.
Arab Raids. Arabs raided an outlying Jewish farmstead and shot dead a mother and her son and wounded another. They carried off an eight-year-old boy who was stabbed to death when supernumeraries pursued the attackers. Arabs kidnapped Mr. Head, chief British forestry officer in the transJordan, and escaped across the Syrian border. Mr. Head was held for ransom. Hundreds of Bedouins and squads of the Arab legion mounted on camels overtook and engaged an armed party of 60 Arabs on the Syrian border and rescued Mr. Head unharmed.
All shops in Jerusalem are closed and transport is inactive as the result of a partial Arab strike.
