LIVESTOCK MARKET
THE WANGANUI SALE GOOD MARKET FOR EWES Although the entry at yesterday's Wanganui stock sale was small in comparison with recent yardings, it was evident that there are quite a number of buyers who are in need of breeding ewes. The few pens offered ‘sold remarkably well at a fair advance on the previous week. Fat sheep were fully firm to a shade dearer. The fat cattle market was erratic, really prime cattle selling well. A good entry of store cattle, mostly on account of Mrs. A. Gray, who has leased her farm, came forward. In spite of the dry conditions these cattle sold well. Vealers made quite a good sale, but porkers and all store pigs, of which there was a heavier entry than usual, were easier. Prices realised at the sale were as follows: Sheep.—Prime ewes, 10s, 12s; fat, Bs, 9s 9d; fat wethers, 16s 3d, 19s 6d; fat lambs, 19s, 20s 3d; light, 15s, 18s 6d; good 2-tooth ewes to 335; 4 and 5year ewes, 17s, 17s 8d; low conditioned, 12s, 13s 6d; m.a. ewes, 20s, 19s 6d, 17s Id; small 2-tooth ewes, 10s, 19s good ewe lambs, 19s 9d; 1-shear S.D. rams, 4lgns., sgns.; small, £2 2s 6d, £3 3s; aged, 10s, 15s; 1-shear Romney rams, IJgns., 24gns.; aged, 10s, 20s. Prices receded on all classes of sheep and marked a decline on the previous sales. Quotations: —On account of Finnis and Sons, 28 twotooth ewes, 16s 6d; on account of Mr. W. Abraham and Williams, Limited, reports a full yarding of sheep, well in excess of advertised numbers. The entry generally was not of attractive quality and there was a lifeless sale for all classes, with a substantial fall in values, particularly in the case of full-mouth ewes. Two-tooth ewes made up to 30s, being fully up to fair value. Five-year ewes declined in value by 3s to 4s a head, while wethers and lambs were also down in value. Southdown rams were sought
