MARTON CENTENNIAL PARK CARNIVAL
TOWN AND COUNTRY CANDIDATES (Own Correspondent.) MARTON, Feb. 28. There was a good attendance of supporters of the Marton Centennial Park Carnival at the Borough Council Chambers last evening. Mr. F. Purnell (Mayor) presided. It was originally intended that the contest should be a triangular one— Town, Country and Sports—but the meeting unanimously decided to hold a straight-out contest between Town and Country. After a general discussion on ways and means the meeting divided into Town and Country representatives, the two sections having separate meetings. Mr. T. Barton was elected chairman of the Town Committee for the duration of the carnival and Mr. W. J. Mogridge secretary. The Country representatives elected Mr. W. G. Aitken chairman and Mr. J. R. Howard secretary, pro tern. The Town Committee selected Master Anthony Jolly, aged 11 months, as their candidate. A meeting of all those desirous of assisting the Country candidate will be held in the Marton Borough Council Chambers to-morrow (Thursday) evening at 8 o’clock to appoint a committee and select their candidate. Country supporters should make a | note of this date and attend in force. RANGITIKEI CRICKET. A DRY FEBRUARY On only five days in February was there any rain, the fall for the month totalling .64 inch, whereas the average February rainfall over a period of 28 years is 2.30 inches.
