MATAROA SCHOOL NOTES

SWIMMING SPORTS AT HIHITAHI (Own Correspondent.) MATAROA, Feb. 28. On Friday, February 24, a number of pupils of the school, with Mr. R. Marks in charge, journeyed to Hihitahi to take part in swimming sports. Turangaarere school children were also present. The weather was glorious and all present spent a most enjoyable time. At the conclusion of the outing a hearty vote of thanks was extended to the Hihitahi School for the pleasant afternoon. The following are the results of the swimming events, the abreviations being Mataroa M, Hihitahi H.: — 25yds. (girls).—Lois Thurston (M) 1. Susie Webster (H) 2, Valerie Ward (M) 3. 25yds. (boys).—Graeme Thurston (M) 1. Mervyn Canton (H) 2, Tamiti Hakopa (H) 3. 25yds. Breaststroke.—Lois Thurston (M) 1, Valerie Ward (M) 2, Dulcie Ward (M> 3. 25yds. Backstroke.—Lois Thurston (M) 1, Mervyn Canton (Hi 2, Valerie Ward (M) 3.' Dive.—Lois Thurston (M) 1, Graeme Thurston (M) 3. The learners also took part.
