MAJESTIC THEATRE

“ADVENTURES OF ROBIN HOOD” “The Adventures of Robin Hood,” a Warner Bros, picture filmed entirely in technicolour, is enjoying a “capacity” season at the Majestic Theatre. Errol Flynn, the young Irishman who so capably filled the dashing roles in “Captain Blood” and "The Charge of the Light Brigade,” is a made-to-order Robin Hood in the title role of the film. The familiar tale, descended from English ballads of centuries ago, was seen on the screen some fifteen years ago when the agile Douglas Fairbanks, son., played the title role. The present Warner Bros, version goes deeper into untold escapades and exploits of the gay rascal who plundered the rich to feed the poor. Olivia de Havilland plays Maid Marian. Other important roles are filled by Claude Rains as the treacherous Prince John, Basil Rathbone as villainous Sir Guy, lan Hunter as King Richard, and Patrie Knowles and Alan Hale as outlaws. “Boy From Barnardo’s” The understanding manner in which waifs, orphans and homeless boys are fitted to take their place in life is feelingly portrayed in "The Boy From Barnardo’s," which is showing on Saturday at the Majestic Theatre. Freddie Bartholomew is cast as a priggish little snob who finally emerges as a likeable fellow after having his faults knocked out of him. Used as a dupe by a gang of jewel thieves, he is brought before a magistrate, who sends him to the home rather than to a reform school. The boys are a decent crowd, but Freddy tries his sneaking tricks, and gets thoroughly disliked. Many adventures befall him before he is a sailor aboard the finest ship afloat. Mickey Rooney is cast as the good-hearted Irish friend of Bartholomew, and Herbert Mundin is excellent in the role of Mr. Jelks, one of the instructors.
