ANTI-NAZI RIOTS
STUDENTS IN POLAND “DOWN WITH GERMANY” ‘‘DANZIG MUST BE POLISH” [By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright] WARSAW, Feb. 26. Over 10,000 students milled through the streets of Warsaw this afternoon shouting: "Down with Germany; Danzig must be Polish." Strong forces of police prevented the students approaching the German Embassy. Twenty thousand students first met in the university courtyard and passed a resolution banning German students from Polish universities for one day as a reprisal against antiPolish activities by German students in Danzig. Such action hitherto had been reserved for Jews. Colonel Jan Tomaszewski, commander of the Academic Legion, urged the meeting
to break off social relations with German students.
“Only With Italy." The Government spokesman said concerning the visit of the Italian Foreign Minister, Count Ciano, to Warsaw: “Poland is not aiming at closer friendship with the Rome-Berlin axis, but only with Italy. Poland is remaining aloof from any axis, but wishes to maintain good relations with either axis, as Poland would lose a valuable position as the holder of the balance of power. "The position preserved during the visit of the Garman Foreign Minister, Herr Joachin von Ribbentrop, will be continued during the visit by the Italian Foreign Minister." The German News Agency (Berlin) alleges that 12 German students were beaten with sticks in Cracow, and that the polish students also scattered the entire furniture of the German high school students hostel. After the arrival of the mision Count Ciano lunched with the Polish President, M. Igrace Moscicia. Colonel Joseph Beck, Polish Foreign Minister, in a statement at th<_ banquet said: “We are going to try to enlarge the friendly collaboration of our two Governments without losing sight of the just interests of others.’ This is regarded as an assurance that Poland will not support a policy harmful to France.
