NATIONAL INSURANCE AUSTRALIA REPEALS ACT Received Feb. 27, 5.5 p.m. SYDNEY, Feb. 27. The Sydney Morning Herald says that it is reliably reported that the - Federal Government, at its series of meetings in Melbourne, decided to abandon the national insurance scheme and to introduce legislation to repeal the National Insurance Act. It is understood that the decision was not unanimous but that Ministers who opposed the repeal will abide by the will of the majority. A cablegram received from Canberra on February 23 stated: It is revealed that the Federal Cabinet last week reached a tacit decision to shelve the national insurance scheme. iMeanwhUe, it is understood that objections to certain features of the ! scheme will be reviewed and plans I prepared for its extension in antici- ■ pation of its operation later.
