FUTURE PALESTINE Linked With Britain By Treaty MANDATE TO BE ENDED FEAR OF WAR IN NEAR EAST [By Telegraph—Presa Association—Copyright! (Independent Cable Service.) LONDON, Feb. 26. C abinet has accepted in principle sensational proposals to end the Palestine mandate and institute an independent State linked to Britain by treaty, states Reynolds News. Broad outlines of the plan were communicated to the Jewish and Arab delegates at the Palestine Conference. The plan envisages:— The declaration of an interim period in Palestine to begin in a few months, when legislative Assembly will be established with representation for Jews and Arabs. The creation of an independent Arab State at the end of the interim period. A treaty with Britain by the new State on the lines of those with Egypt and Iraq. The newspaper adds that the keynote of the situation is the fear of war in the Near East, with Fascist penetration endangering Arab loyalty. Rejected by Jews The Executive of the Jewish Agency rejected the Government’s proposals for Palestine, states an Australian Associated Press message. It will report on the full conference to-morrow through Dr. Chaim Weizmann. Arabs held demonstrations, rejoicing at the imminence of the independent Arab State, in the streets of Haifa, Jaffa, Nazareth, and Tulkaram. . , , . The Jewish Council issued a statement declaring that the reported proposal to replace the Palestine Mandate by an independent Arab State would undermine the Jewish Natl °JJ a * Home. The statement added that the Jews oppose the attempt to impose a minority status upon them. Troops arrested 41 Arabs and seized a quantity of firearms. BOMB OUTRAGE IN HAIFA HAIFA, Feb. 26. A bomb which was thrown at a lorry in the centre of the town kit ed the Jewish driver and his assistant. LUNCHEON INVITATIONS JEWS DECLINE BRITISH hospitality Received Feb. 27, 10.30 p.m. LONDON, Feb. 27. The Jewish delegation declined the British Government's invitation to an official luncheon on the grounds that it cannot accept hospitality in view of the British settlement plan. BOMB EXPLOSIONS HEAVY ARAB CASUALTIES Received Feb. 28, 1 a.m. HAIFA, Feb. 27. At least 21 were killed and 44 injured by two bomb explosions in Arab centres. IN JERUSALEM Received Feb. 28, 1 a.m. JERUSALEM, Feb. 27. Three Arabs were killed and six injured as a result of a heavy bomb explosion in the market place.
