BULL RUNS AMOK
BEN NEVIS HOTEL INVADED STAMPEDE IN LOUNGE The quiet of Sunday afternoon ir the Ben Nevis Hotel, Turakina, wa< roughly disturbed at about 3 o'clock when a Jersey bull entered the lounge, stampeded the guests, and attracted a crowd of nearly 200 people. Mr. G. Lishman, the proprietor, said there was no great damage done, though there was broken glass, and blood littered all over the room. The front door of the lounge was battered, carpets were disarranged, and the confusion was general and complete. For two hours about 15 men tried to get the animal back on to the road, before they had any success. The bull snorted through the front door of the hotel when a large mob of cattle were being driven past. Everyone in sight scattered rapidly as the bull charged about the lounge, tripping on carpets, and presenting a fearful sight. It climbed half-way up the main staircase at one stage when drovers and other helpers armed with sticks were attempting to drive it out. No one was injured, but the excitement was intense.
