SHOOTING

WANGANUI DEFENCE RIFLE CLUB COMPETITION FOR MR. F. SOLER S TROPHY The Wanganui Defence Rifle Club fired a competition on Saturday, over 300, 500 and 600 yards, for a trophy donated by Mr. Soler, seven shots at each range. The conditions were ideal for shoot- , ing. a slight left drift and bright sunshine. Some very good scores were recorded. H. Hughes, A. Humphrey, W. Howard, M. Jones and I. Ford got the possible at 500 yards. W. Howard and I. Ford were best scorers off the rifle, with 103. M. Jones was the winner for the day, with a total of 103, finishing with a possible 34 at 600 yards. In conjunction with this shoot a practice was held for those who have a chance of getting into the inter-* provincial team for the match to be held at Trentham on March 2. In this shoot possibles were scored by M. Jones at 300, H. Meads, F. J. Soler and M. Jones at 500 yards, and F. J. Soler at 600 yards. The next club shoot will be held at Aramoho on March 11, two shoots at 300 yards for a trophy. The following members will be representing the Rifle Club at the N. meeting at Trentham, commencing on Friday, March: H. Hughes, F. J. Soler, I. Ford, M. Jones, E. Farley, J. Paterson and W. Jones.
