YACHTING

14-FOOT CLASS

MELBOURNE INVITATION TO WELLINGTON OWNER [Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, Feb. 27. An invitation to take an X class 14foot yacht to Melbourne in January or February, 1940, has been extended to Mr. A. Johnston, of Wellington. His brother, Mr. W. T. Johnston, of Melbourne, who visited Wellington last week said it was hoped to arrange for several New Zealand X class boats to visit Melbourne. The boats wouid compete against the Victorian open class 14-footers. Mr. A. Johnston said that some of the Australian yachts might visit New Zealand for the Centennial and it might be possible for New Zealand yachts to return to Australia when the racing here was finished. If Mr. Johntson accepts the invitation, he will probably take the new Rona, the Jellicoe boat which is being built under his supervision in Wellington, to take part in trials for the Sanders Cup contest. He has wide experience as a skipper of centreboard boats and has won the Sanders Cup for Wellington.
